Kaitlyn | Harford County Teen Photographer

Kaitlyn’s mom and I planned a fun teen session for Kaitlyn to celebrate her finishing 8th grade … and the delays were almost a comedy of errors. The first weekend POURED. The next date we selected we found our chosen location was unexpectedly closed, so on the fly, we went to Heavenly Waters Park in Bel Air, Maryland. I had never been there before but it had great light, beautiful trails and some gorgeous foliage. Kaitlyn wore the dress she purchased for her 8th grade graduation ceremony and it worked beautifully with the location. Best of luck in high school, Kaitlyn!

Sydney | Towson Teen Photographer

I have known Sydney (and her incredible mom) since she was in kindergarten with my oldest son. They’re now 15 and in high school. Where did these years go??? We had an amazing teen session in downtown Towson. There’s a lot of construction going on which might normally be an eyesore but we turned it into an incredible backdrop to celebrate her fun style. Who says you have to have wait until senior year for portraits? It’s kind of funny - so many take their kids to a photographer every year until kindergarten - and then minus a family portrait here or there - there’s nothing truly about them again until their senior year of high school. But they change so much during that time! So let’s change that trend, ok???

Sage | Towson Senior Photographer

Sage is such an incredible, beautiful person - inside and out. I first met her family this past January when they reached out to interview me to see how I would capture her personality and adjust my style to match hers. I shared my approach with them the same as with all of my clients - my goal is to create a fun experience to capture you exactly as you are. Want hair and makeup and poofy dresses? Awesome - done. Want something more laid back and urban? Done. It’s all about you in the end.

When we started planning her session - we decided to split our session into 2 days. (Didn’t know I do that? Hell yeah I do!). Sage wanted 2 looks: 1) After spending most of her childhood in Arizona, she LOVED winters in Maryland and wanted something in the snow and 2) a fun, urban downtown look in the Spring.

Fortunately, for Sage, Maryland got a big snow/ice storm the weekend after we chatted, so we met up at Jerusalem Mill in Kingsville, Maryland to capture some really fun snow shots. Then, this past April, we met in Fells Point in Baltimore to really bring out her style, her love of fun fashion, and even incorporated her skateboard. I had some much fun hanging out with Sage and know she’s off to do amazing things in art school next year!!!

Limited Edition Senior Minis | Baltimore Senior Photographer

Another school year is winding to a close - it seems surreal. In many ways - this past year was both the quickest and also the longest year of my life. And I’m sure you’re probably feeling the same way. I wanted to give back to the Class of 2021 by creating some normalcy out of a year that otherwise was just weird. And while I can’t magically make Covid go away, I knew I could help in other ways.

I adore is seeing how my clients are transformed and their confidence built during my custom senior sessions - so I brainstormed on how I could offer that to more seniors (and rising seniors!) this spring. I decided to offer - for the first time ever- Senior Mini Sessions. Unlike my full sessions, these sessions are short and sweet. Each session, held on May 1st and 8th, lasts 30 minutes and is held my favorite locations in Baltimore County - Hampton Mansion and Jerusalem Mill. Both locations are easily accessible, full of historic charm and have beautiful light in the morning and afternoon. And the most amazing part of this - these sessions start at $99.

I hope you’ll grab a spot and come hang out with me!

What to Wear to Your Spring Senior Session | Maryland Senior Photographer

Spring is here! Well, technically. The days are getting warmer and flowers are starting to bloom - meaning it’s the perfect time for an amazing Senior session!

So what should you wear??? Your wardrobe is so important because it’s the best way to reflect your personality when creating amazing portraits. I advise my clients to stay true to their personal style - but bump it up a notch.

Most of my Signature Sessions include an urban location, a natural, outdoorsy location and something on the water. This means your session will have a color palette with blues, greens browns, and and some deep reds. It’s important to think about the colors that work with your skin tones and your location so you don’t blend into the background or, even worse, look like a fish out of water.

Here’s some ideas, fresh from Forever 21, for a fun, memorable wardrobe that will stand the test of time. All images are property of Forever 21 and not my work.

Colors

Pantone released their Spring / Summer 2021 colors and it is full of great colors that work with this blend of locations. Incorporate pastels on the water, bold colors in the city, and natural tones of buttercream, rust and yellows in the field/ forest setting.

Make It Move

Movement is a great way to create memorable images! I love incorporating flowy tops and dresses into your session and they work perfectly in a natural or coastal location. Dresses aren’t your thing? Pair a peasant style top with jeans to create a versatile look that gives movement while keeping your authentic style.

Urban Vibe

City images are full of reflective windows, brick buildings, and cobblestone streets. Marry that visual appeal with an edgy or elegant (or both!) look.

Keep It Coastal

If you’re shooting on the beach or near the water, keep your outfit choices full of light colors and light breezy fabrics - but that doesn’t mean you need to wear a dress. Opt for a lightweight spring sweater and jeans instead for a pulled together but not so “girly” look.

Add Interest With Accessories

Give your look some extra oomph by adding fun jewelry, headbands, hats, sunglasses or even a denim jacket. Tossing on a jacket or pulling your hair back is a great, easy way to get additional variety in your shoot without adding another outfit change.

What do you think of these looks?? Tell me in the comments! Ready to plan your session? Use the link below for more information.

Emma | Baltimore County Senior Photographer

Emma’s mom contacted me to schedule her senior portrait session the summer before her senior year. Life has been challenging with Covid restrictions and she wanted to create a memorable experience for Emma with beautiful portraits to commemorate her senior year at the McDonogh School. The campus is incredibly beautiful (it had been on my bucket list for YEARS) and her mom had one special request - Emma rode horses throughout her childhood and would be stopping when she went to college. She wanted to make sure her favorite horses were included in the session. To say I was excited was an understatement!!!

Originally, the session was going to be in early Fall, but we moved to later October due to a horse competition. It didn’t bother me one bit because McDonough and the entire Owings Mills area always has the most beautiful change of seasons and I knew we were destined for magical leaves decorating the hills of the campus.

We did a Zoom consult two weeks before the session to talk through the plan - where were her favorite places on campus? What did she love about herself? How would her friends describe her? What outfits would she wear to hang out with friends, or if she was going to something more dressy? As we talked through her vision, we developed the perfect session plan. Emma is casual and laid back and wanted the session to reflect her style. She already had an incredible wardrobe planned, which she shared with me, as well as her hair and makeup, so I could pull together a plan for the afternoon.

I made the mistake of wearing new Converse the day of the session - don’t judge. Because if you’ve ever been to the McDonogh School, you’ll know the campus is BIG. We started by her favorite red doors to the chapel, explored the beautiful fall leaves, beautiful pillars, incredible fields, and finally the horse barns. All the while, Emma and her mom shared with me the history of the school. I learned so much that afternoon! The irony is - I spent 15 years working LITERALLY next door, but never had the opportunity to explore the campus.

The last half of the shoot was with her horse at school. Thankfully, we had someone at the stable who could assist and make sure everything was completely safe. Her horse was the sweetest, gentlest horse I’ve ever met. (Can I tell you my inner 5 year old was SQUEALING the entire time???). Seriously - at one point, I swear he kissed her. And you could tell the feeling was mutual. It was pure magic.

Emma- It was INCREDIBLE to work with you! The future holds big things for you, girl! I can’t wait to hear how you take the medical world by storm. Good luck in college!!! <3

Riley | Harford County Senior Photographer

Riley and her mom reached out after seeing Kadey’s (her BFF!) incredible senior portrait session, which we shot throughout Harford County, Maryland. She loved the Havre de Grace location we used for Kadey and couldn’t wait to book for her own senior pictures!

As with all of my sessions, we got together about 2 weeks before on a Zoom call to plan. Why Zoom? Well, Covid brought Zoom into our lives and honestly, while I am down for meeting in person to work through your wardrobe in person and to share the incredible products I offer, I also get that our lives are BUSY and sometimes, jumping on a Zoom call is just easier.

During our planning call, Riley shared that she’s really laid back and casual - and she wanted her session to have the same feel. Perfect! Because guess what, I’m laid back and casual too! In our pre-session planning Zoom call, we talked about wanted in her session, any must have shots, what she didn’t want and chose a wardrobe that complemented the session and her (gorgeous!) skin tone. When we got to planning for hair and makeup, we discussed Riley wearing her hair like she normally does, but with some added bounce to bring it up notch. Riley shared that she doesn’t wear a lot of makeup - and wanted her session to be true to herself. And truthfully - most of my clients share this! They are nervous when they first tell me this - like I am going to force them into a full face of makeup- and relieved when I give them options. The first thing I did was connect her with Jazmyne Yeager at Lluminaire Salon for a casual but polished hair style for the day (Fun Fact: Jazmyne was one of my first senior clients, back when she graduated from George Washington Carver High School!). When we talked through makeup, I assured her that I also wanted her to feel comfortable and look like herself - because if there is one thing I have learned in my 7 years as a senior photographer, is that if you don’t feel comfortable - it will show in your images! I told Riley and her mom that professional makeup was always an option if she wanted it, however, if she wanted to do her own and keep a minimalist look, I asked for 3 things: 1) mascara (it makes SUCH a difference in your eyes!!!), 2) bring some powder in case you get sweaty (my sessions can last up to 3 hours!), and 3) wear some Chapstick because editing dry lips is a beast. Riley was thrilled and so was I - you don’t need makeup to look gorgeous and being your authentic self is always more important!

The day of the session, we met by the Concord Point Lighthouse and spent the afternoon wandering the incredible boardwalk, playing on the piers and checking out the beach. We also found out her mom hung out with my husband in high school (what!) and her dad is the gym teacher where my youngest goes to school. Such a tiny world <3 The session was relaxed and fun (minus when I lost my phone and her mother graciously dug through the grass to find it). Overall, the session was incredible and captured Riley’s incredible spirit.

Thinking about a senior session??? I’ve got some spring dates left - drop me a line to start planning yours!

Kadey | Harford County Senior Photographer

Every senior session I shoot becomes my new favorite. It’s not because i’m fickle - it’s because I love each and every one. The connections I build with my clients give me life. Kadey’s session was no exception.

Kadey’s mom wanted to give her a special experience for her senior pictures. She’s the class of 2021 - the class we had hoped would be over Covid and get to experience an amazing final year, full of homecomings, proms and graduation - but instead, got a year of hybrid learning and virtual experiences. After we booked our date, the three of us jumped on a Zoom call to plan the session. Kadey and her mom wanted a session that reflected her personality - someone who is casual, fun and LOVES being on the water. They shared pictures they found on Pinterest that they loved so we chatted about where we could go to create a similar look at feel. We narrowed down our day to 3 locations: a fun field location, a downtown urban vibe and a gorgeous waterfront boardwalk. The best part of it all? We found all these amazing locations within driving distance in Harford County, Maryland.

The day of we started at beautiful Jerusalem Mill in Kingsville, Maryland. Normally, I could spend a session just at this location. But we were on a mission! Kadey wanted a location with tall grass and texture - and lucky for her, I knew an incredible spot nearby that doesn’t look like much from the road but man, does it photograph beautifully. After navigating the weeds and a few attempts at parallel parking on a tiny country road, we got the shots we needed and we were off to our next location! We stopped by downtown Bel Air, where we found some glass front buildings (swoon!), incredible iron steps and a fun alley to create a more urban look for Kadey. Lastly, we went Concord Point Lighthouse in Havre de Grace. We absolutely drove some miles … and I think walked some miles too! The boardwalk at Concord Point is beautiful - and L-O-N-G.

The session was an incredible bonding experience. I’ve known Kadey’s family for almost 10 years as her little brother Cole was best friends with my middle son, Brady, but I never really got to spend time with her. I was so thankful for this incredible photoshoot and the ability to get to know her better and see Cole’s amazing spirit shine through her. The future holds some magic for her - I can feel it!!!

Triston | Frederick Maryland Senior Photographer

My passion is creating unique, fun portrait experiences that represent the personalities of the high school seniors I work with. Usually, that involves lots of locations … but not always. Triston’s mom contacted me in the summer before his senior year to start planning his senior session. Her request - she wanted to have the session on his great-grandparents farm. (A real farm??? SIGN ME UP).

Triston’s great-grandparents live on the most amazing orchard in Frederick, Maryland and it was the perfect backdrop for his senior pictures. I didn’t have the opportunity to scout this location ahead of time, something I like to do, but during our pre-session call, his mom talked about the orchard, old farm equipment, barn and gardens - I knew we could create something incredible.

The morning of the session was overcast, which might worry some clients but it is a total photographer’s delight. An overcast sky diffuses light - like a giant softbox - which means we don’t have to rely on pockets of shade and truthfully, aren’t on a rushed time table for shooting the session. When I arrived, I got to meet his great-grandparents, who honestly could not have been kinder and gave me carte blanche to explore the property. When Triston arrived, I learned a little more about his casual style and how he really wanted to session to show who he is as a person and to document how important this incredible farm is to him and his family. We walked around the property together and he showed me his favorite parts - the brick entry way, the gardens in the back, the tire swing, the fun road that runs past the drive way, and how he helps out on the orchard throughout the year. We even saw the hog farm next door (which blew my mind because for as much as I would like to think I’m a little more rural, I am a total city slicker). It was clear just how much he loves this land and the memories that come with it.

Triston and his family were an absolute dream to work with and I can’t wait to see them again for their extended family session!

MeiLin | Westminster MD Senior Photographer

MeiLin was such a joy to work with! She was on my senior model team last year - so I knew we had to go over and above the fun styled shoots we had already done. Thanks to Covid-19, Homecoming was cancelled for the year - so we wanted to include her Homecoming dress for a formal look, followed with a casual, rural location (we ARE in Carroll County after all!), more sporty at her high school, and finished with a fun downtown urban location. I just love this session!!!
