What to Wear to Your Spring Senior Session | Maryland Senior Photographer

Spring is here! Well, technically. The days are getting warmer and flowers are starting to bloom - meaning it’s the perfect time for an amazing Senior session!

So what should you wear??? Your wardrobe is so important because it’s the best way to reflect your personality when creating amazing portraits. I advise my clients to stay true to their personal style - but bump it up a notch.

Most of my Signature Sessions include an urban location, a natural, outdoorsy location and something on the water. This means your session will have a color palette with blues, greens browns, and and some deep reds. It’s important to think about the colors that work with your skin tones and your location so you don’t blend into the background or, even worse, look like a fish out of water.

Here’s some ideas, fresh from Forever 21, for a fun, memorable wardrobe that will stand the test of time. All images are property of Forever 21 and not my work.

Colors

Pantone released their Spring / Summer 2021 colors and it is full of great colors that work with this blend of locations. Incorporate pastels on the water, bold colors in the city, and natural tones of buttercream, rust and yellows in the field/ forest setting.

Make It Move

Movement is a great way to create memorable images! I love incorporating flowy tops and dresses into your session and they work perfectly in a natural or coastal location. Dresses aren’t your thing? Pair a peasant style top with jeans to create a versatile look that gives movement while keeping your authentic style.

Urban Vibe

City images are full of reflective windows, brick buildings, and cobblestone streets. Marry that visual appeal with an edgy or elegant (or both!) look.

Keep It Coastal

If you’re shooting on the beach or near the water, keep your outfit choices full of light colors and light breezy fabrics - but that doesn’t mean you need to wear a dress. Opt for a lightweight spring sweater and jeans instead for a pulled together but not so “girly” look.

Add Interest With Accessories

Give your look some extra oomph by adding fun jewelry, headbands, hats, sunglasses or even a denim jacket. Tossing on a jacket or pulling your hair back is a great, easy way to get additional variety in your shoot without adding another outfit change.
