Emily and I had the most amazing senior photo session last spring (I suck at blogging - kill me) and I had to share the experience with you all! As a photographer based in Harford County, Maryland, I've done countless senior sessions, but this one really stands out.
Emily and I first connected by phone to plan her session, so we could get to know one another and plan a session that really reflected her personality. We clicked immediately as we scrolled through inspiration photos. We really wanted to create natural images with open fields and soft, flowing dresses.
Together, we mapped out the perfect shoot. Emily knew she wanted water elements in some shots, so we chose my favorite hidden creek in Harford County. For variety, we also picked a nearby meadow with tall grasses and gorgeous golden-hour lighting.
When shoot day arrived, it was POURING. So we called an audible and rescheduled - and as luck would have it, the weather couldn't have been more perfect! Emily showed up with the cutest outfits - a tiered floral maxi dress in soft yellows and pinks with delicate trim, and a simple pink ribbed tank paired with high-waisted vintage-style jeans. We also incorporated this gorgeous bouquet of sunflowers and wildflowers that added the perfect pop of color.
The session started at the creek, where Emily was admittedly a bit nervous. I coached her through how to pose and answered the number one comment in every one of my shoots: "I don't know what to do with my hands," she laughed. This is totally normal! I find the best way to ease into a shoot is just conversation. We chatted about her college plans while I snapped away, and before long, that genuine smile I was looking for began to emerge.
By the time we moved to the open field, Emily was completely relaxed. The golden afternoon light was filtering through the trees just perfectly, creating that dreamy glow that we Harford County photographers live for in summer sessions.
What made this session special wasn't just the gorgeous locations or perfect outfits - it was seeing Emily's personality truly shine through as the session progressed. That's always my goal with Harford County seniors - capturing who they really are at this important moment in their lives.
We wrapped up the session as the sun was setting, reviewing some of the images on my camera display.
